If you don’t know who she is, then you must have totally missed the Olympics in Rio – where the Nike commercial featuring her was played more than a few times.
Known as the Iron Nun, she is a Senior Olympian Triathlete (Swim, Bike, Run), who holds the current world record for the oldest person to ever finish an Ironman Triathlon, which she did when 82, back in 2012.
That’s right .. Sister Buder is now 86 and still competing!
Now this is where it gets interesting: She started exercising at 48, did her first Triathlon at 52, and her first Ironman at 55!
How cool is that!
When asked about her training – at her age – she always replies: “I train religiously!”
And she has competition! Her big win in 2012 (mentioned above), she beat-out the previous record holder, Lew Hollander, who was 81. She finished her race 14 seconds faster!
She is in the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame, has written a book on her experience, and shows no signs of slowing down.
